Although the current Tundra enjoys brisk sales due to its refined ride and easy-to-drive demeanor, Toyota knows that in order to compete with the big boys it needs a bigger truck. The next-generation Tundra will be a full-size truck in every respect, with a larger V8 power plant and comparable dimensions to Detroit's biggest and best. The FTX concept truck shown at the 2004 Detroit Auto Show was a preview of what Toyota has in mind. Its outlandish size and styling may get toned down a bit for the production truck, but there's no doubt who Toyota is targeting. In fact, Toyota is so intent on building a credible truck, it's constructing an all-new plant in San Antonio, Texas, to build it. Minimize

Is this the best full-size pickup?

Author's Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Great V6 and 5sp automatic, quiet ride, finally REALLY full sized.

Cons: Steering a bit numb, not as car-like as the 06.

Bottom Line:
The Tundra is now a no-excuses work truck, but it lost the easy-going "large midsize" Camry-truck personality of the old model. Definitely a "must drive". Read More

The New King of Full Sized Pickups

Author's Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Silky power, quiet ride and a great list of unique features

Cons: Ride is too firm for my liking and should be three inches lower.

Bottom Line:
You will be happy with this pickup if you can get past the teasing by your "Ford-Chevy fan" friends. I am liking this truck more and more. Read More

Excellent truck, of course, it's a Toyota.

Author's Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Power, reliability, Lexus like ride, beautiful looking. Slightly better fuel economy than other full size

Cons: None.

Bottom Line:
It's a very attractive, powerful, reliable truck. It has the best turning radius of any pickup I've ever driven. The engine is an engineering masterpiece, tranny is wonderful. Read More

The first serious full size contender from Toyota

Author's Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: BIG power and torque numbers. First 6-Speed Automatic truck transmission in the industry.

Cons: Lacks overall refinement and solid feel. Mediocre suspension, steering, and styling.

Bottom Line:
Toyota has introduced a new flavor of a full sized truck. Where it lacks refinement, it makes up with power. Give one a spin and see for yourself. Read More
